FREE! Interactive Engineering Workshops for Schools

In 1854 George Boole, Lecturer in Mathematics in what is now UCC published his theory on algebra. In  1937 Claude Shannon’s master’s thesis showed that the algebra invented by George Boole in the 1800s could represent the workings of electrical switches. The work of Boole, a mathematician and Shannon, an electrical engineer laid the foundations for the development of computers and is credited with shaping the way we live our lives today.

CEIA is delighted to offer schools interactive engineering workshops designed to demonstrate how this early research evolved to bring us the sophisticated technology we are accustomed to using today.  Students will be guided through a series of designs using CAD tools and electronic hardware designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of engineering and technology.

  • The ideal duration of the workshops is 3hrs but they can be re-designed for longer or shorter periods.
  • The workshops will take place in the school and are for Senior Cycle students.
  • The workshops are free of charge.
