Supply Chain Optimisation: Ms. Sylvia Fouhy,
Vice President of Sourcing, Johnson & Johnson

Sylvia Fouhy is World Wide Vice President of Sourcing for the Johnson &
Johnson’s Medical Devices sector, one of Medical Devices largest supply
chain organisations worldwide.
An accountant by profession, she has been with J&J for 19 years. In 1992 she was part of the team that implemented the Global Supply Chain organisation for J&J DePuy, here in Cork. She then went on to lead the Global Supply Chain, developing its commercial and technical expertise to become a best in class supply chain organisation within J&J.

In June of this year she was appointed into her current role as Vice President of Sourcing for the Medical Devices sector with responsibility for over $2Bn in sourcing spend; Sylvia is responsible for driving a
strategy across the sector with particular emphasis on strategic supplier readiness and risk mitigation.   

She is part of the Supply Chain leadership team that is currently consolidating the nine J&J companies within the Medical Devices sector to create one stand alone best in class supply chain that will drive growth, innovation whilst reducing risk.

Sylvia holds a Degree in Business Management Studies from the Cork Institute of Technology and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Chris HornMarket Expansion: Dr. Chris Horn
Co-founder & former CEO of Iona Technologies

Chris an electronics engineer, who graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1978, and subsequently completed a PhD by 1983. In 1991 he co-founded and became CEO of IONA Technologies headquartered in Dublin. The company went public using Lehman in what was the 5th largest IPO in the history of Nasdaq in 1997. At one point during this period, the company was one of the largest top ten software companies by revenue in the world. He retired as CEO and Chairman in 2000, but returned as CEO from 2003 until 2005 to rebuild the company. The company was sold in September 2008, using Lehman: (completed in the week just before Lehman imploded.)

He has served on the IBEC national council and on its ICT Ireland; the advisory board to what is now the DCENR (Dept. of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources) for the nationwide provision of “open access” metropolitan area networks in towns and smaller cities; the board of Trinity College Dublin and separately, its Foundation Board; the board of Science Foundation Ireland; and the business advisory board of Georgia Tech. Ireland.

Chris is currently chair of the following companies and initiatives: Past-President of Engineers Ireland, (having served as President in 2009-10); China Crest, a Beijing based consultancy business; Cloudsmith, a web based software community; Gridstore, a Dublin based storage grid company; & CTVR, a research initiative in advanced telecommunications.

Chris was a member of the Innovation Taskforce, an advisory group established by the Taoiseach, which reported to Government in February 2010. He is now a member of the consequent Implementation Group to oversee execution of the Taskforce recommendations.
