The CEIA presents their 29th Annual General Meeting at

The Guest Speaker for the evening is:  Mr Sean O’Sullivan

Sean O’Sullivan is an entrepreneur, inventor and investor, born in New York, living here in Cork. He is best known for co-founding MapInfo Corporation in 1986, a leading Location Intelligence and GIS company, headquartered in New York, and for coining the term “Cloud Computing”. 

In 1993, Sean founded SOSventures, a venture capital and investment management firm which seeks to invest in start-up companies primarily in the technology sector. As Managing Director he has invested in over 100 companies, six of which became public companies or divisions of public companies listed on the Nasdaq or NYSE.  With headquarters in Cork, Ireland and offices in the United States and China, SOSventures actively collaborates with and supports its international portfolio companies. Founded in 2007, Carma (formerly known as Avego) leads the world in carpooling technology. Headquartered in Cork, with offices in Dublin and the USA, Carma’s customers include cities, governments, public transport operators and tens of thousands of individual consumers.

Sean has had an unusually diverse career, being described as a “renaissance man”.      He has also been described as an engineer, musician, computer programmer, a humanitarian, a war photographer, a cinematographer, stock analyst, freelance photojournalist, a venture capitalist and writer. As benefactor of the O’Sullivan Foundation, he has also been a primary funder of organizations such as the Khan Academy and CoderDojo.

Also, as Chairman of the Irish Entrepreneurship Forum and founder of Open Ireland, he is a leader and influencer of Irish government policy in fuelling economic growth and recovery in the Technology sector. Of course his celebrity status has been confirmed appearing as one of the ‘dragons’ on the RTE program “Dragon’s Den”
